Acharacle Community Company

Information about the Company

Acharacle Community Company is a small non profit distributing organisation which was originally formed in 2001 in order to save the local Post Office from Closure.

Since achieving that goal, the aims of the company include manageing land and assets for the benefit of the Community, not only providing a way for local groups to access funding but also offering training and activity opportunities across the age groups.

The Company owns the Post Office Building which also houses the Blue Parrot Cafe and Community Office, and the adjacent bungalow Druim Garbh. A Forest Pavilion near Salen known as Sgoil na Coille ("Wood School") and a composting toilet are also run by the company on land leased from the Forestry Commission.

The Re-use shed was started through the Company and it continues to be run by volunteers. This project diverts waste from landfill, to provide much needed furniture and household items to others, mainly in the Acharacle area but also throughout Lochaber.

The Company is raising funds for improvements to the car park at the Post Office, with the total currently standing at approximately £6000.

Internet access is provided in the Community Office for both visitors and locals (run with the help of volunteers) and the company organises local produce and craft markets in Acharacle, which are held once a month from April to October.
